   Dear Prospective Student:    

Welcome to the website of the School of Education at Georgia Southwestern State University.  The School of Education Theme: “Preparing Skilled Reflective Decision-Makers” embodies our vision of accomplished education professionals and is further detailed in our Conceptual Framework and Performance Outcomes.

The School of Education is organized into three departments: Special Education, Reading and Early Childhood Education; Health and Human Performance; and Middle/Secondary Education.  All of our programs reflect commitment to collaboration with our colleagues in the School of Arts and Sciences, and the public schools.  Through a network of 42 Professional Development Schools located in 12 area school systems we fully integrate the field experience and academic components of our programs.  Individuals can earn baccalaureate degrees with certification in Early Childhood Education, Middle Grades Education, Special Education, and Health and Physical Education.  Individuals interested in secondary certification can pursue baccalaureate degrees with certification in English, History, and Mathematics.  We also offer degree programs in Exercise Science/Wellness and in Recreation.

Graduate degree programs are available in Early Childhood, Special Education, and General Content fields.

The School of Education is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). All of our programs are approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC).

We are proud of the education our candidates receive with emphasis on standards-based curriculum, research-based practices, diversity, and current technology applications.
