New! STEM Initiative and BOR University System fund new model technology classrooms in the School of Education [8/08/08]


The School of Education at GSW now has two new model technology classrooms - one for mathematics education, and the other for science education. Thanks to funds provided by the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics) Initiative as well as the Board of Regents University System, both rooms have now been equipped with ceiling mounted projectors and an interactive white board. For reservations of these rooms, please contact Mrs. Shelly Harbuck in the Education Office at sharbuck@gsw.edu or 931-2145. Reservations must be made 1-2 weeks in advance, and all current reservations will be posted weekly on the door to the rooms for review.

 

 

New! ANNOUNCEMENT-

Fall 2008 Directed Study & Internship Students: [7/17/08]

  • All students who register for the Directed Study (EDEC/EDMG/EDSP/EDSC/EDRG/EDUC 7420) will be required to attend the beginning seminar on Thursday, August 21, at 5:00 p.m., in Room 205 of the Education Center.

  • All students who register for Internships (EDCF 5700/EDCF 5800) will be required to attend the beginning seminar on Monday, August 25, at 5:00 p.m., in Room 206 of the Education Center.

 

New Faculty Appointments to GSW School of Education

Following a long process of screening and interviewing applicants, the GSW School of Education has made the following faculty appointments set to begin on August 1, 2008:

  • Dr. Chu Chu Wu, Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education - Tenure Track

  • Ms. Kathy Barnetson, Assistant Professor of Special Education

  • Dr. Sheryl Venable, Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education

  • Ms. Becky Short, Assistant Professor of Reading Education

School of Education Professor named Teacher of the Year

Each May, the GSW Alumnae Association sponsors the presentation of the Teacher of the Year Award. The award recipient is nominated by the members of the previous graduating class. During the Spring 2008 Graduation ceremony at Georgia Southwestern State University, one of our own School of Education faculty members,  Dr. Julia Dorminey, Associate Professor of Early Childhood Education, was presented with the award. Congratulations to Dr. Dorminey on a job well done! [5/08]

 

GSW to offer 4-year Education degree at ABAC

Beginning Fall Semester 2008, Georgia Southwestern State University School of Education will be offering a new 4-year degree on the campus of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) in Tifton. This program, which will follow a cohort schedule, will allow ABAC students to earn junior and senior level credits toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education without having to leave Tifton. Approximately 30 students have already signed up for courses. Recent Promotions within the School of Education

Dr. Lettie Watford, Dean of Education, announced two new promotions within the School of Education yesterday: Ms. Wanda Thompson to Certification/Program Support Specialist, and Ms. Yolanda West to Administrative Assistant to the Dean. Dr. Watford commended the ladies on their great work for the school, and asked everyone to join in congratulating them on their new positions. [4/16/08]
